Cupping

Cupping is quite like a reverse deep tissue massage but can be performed very gently in the case of weakened patients.  Plastic cups are applied to the skin and suction occurs, pulling tissues slightly up into the cup.  This allows increased blood flow into the tissue below, nourishing the tissue and moving out stagnated blood and toxins.  Most patients absolutely love cupping both in feeling and effect.  Cup marks are unlikely but possible, and may be visible for anywhere from 3 to 10 days, so please keep this in mind when we ask if you'd like cupping.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion has been used for thousands of years alongside acupuncture.  It involves burning moxa, the Chinese herb "Ai Ye".  It is a fluffy herbal wool found beneath leaves of the Mugwort plant.  This substance can be rolled into cones and applied on top of needles, directly applied by itself, or formed into cigar-like shapes to be lit and held near the skin.  A warming technique, moxibustion can help with pain and improves circulation.  This is included in your acupuncture treatments if it is indicated for your condition.
